“Lose It All” may be Sam Tompkins most touching single yet

Date:

In the modern age of blockbuster celebrities and artists, names that go up in lights (and sometimes down in flames), it’s rare, yet refreshing, to be caught off guard. The unassuming, raw quality of his songs is what makes Sam Tompkins stand out and do just that.

His newest release ,“Lose It All,” shows a masculine vulnerability rarely approached in modern pop, but it’s something that comes naturally to him. Lyrically and vocally, Tompkins lays his feelings bare, gradually feeding gravel into the song’s sensitive lines to show exactly how much it means personally.

When the first chorus swells — chills. The legitimately hair-raising effects are nothing to scoff at, nor is Tompkins’ skill in being honest, yet not overbearing. This skill is obvious on his 2021 single “Whole,” as well. Such sincerity is a fine line to walk musically, and he manages to more than pull it off.
