It has been nearly one month since lo-fi indie artist Yxngxr1 gave us Teenage Motel. Warm and relatable, the album fits right in with any playlist you may have on repeat this summer, its 14 tracks doing well to keep the mood casual yet interesting. Even though he gave us more than enough content to last until the end of summer, at least, Yxngxr1 has decided to spice things up by dropping a deluxe version of Teenage Motel. Featuring six new tracks, this project picks up where the original left off, further expanding the narrative that Teenage Motel told.
With Teenage Motel (Deluxe), Yxngxr1 gives us more observations on life going on around him, special people he meets, and various relationships. From the retro sounds of “somewhere, somehow, someplace” to the indie pop of “it’s all good, it’s ok,” Yxngxr1 continues to be his relatable self while presenting diverse and charming music. These tracks seamlessly blend in with the original tracks, enabling us to further enjoy this extended stay at the motel.
Along with this special release, Yxngxr1 gave us the music video to “hair tie.” Despite its summery sound, its lyrics focus on the strain of not being with someone. On the track, Yxngxr1 tells us about a girl he used to hang out with, how she was into “old cars” and “vintage shops.” He enjoyed being with her, but now all he has left of her is a hair tie, which causes him to “never sleep at night.” In the video below, you can watch him recount this story with George Moir, who is also featured on the track.
