Tiffany Johnson is the new “Girl Next Door”

Date:

Tiffany Johnson is a rising star. Today, she released her latest single “Girl Next Door,” the opening track to her debut album Temptress, also released today. The Nashville-based singer-songwriter experiments with pop and rock melodies with quick-witted lyricism.

This approach has added a refreshing sense of humor to her punk energy that has landed her as a two-time semi-finalist in American Songwriter Magazine’s Song Contest. She has also been repeatedly named “One to Watch” by the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI).

“Girl Next Door” is an edgy take on desire. The desire to feel wanted or seen by someone when you know the relationship is ultimately doomed from start can be a familiar feeling. In this song, Tiffany shows how the “girl next door” can be an idealized version of what the other person has in mind, and is willing to allow that narrative to play out for the sake of being desired by them. The lyrics capture the back-and-forth of the internal conflicts that occur when there are parts of yourself you hate while you simultaneously want to be longed for. Through the pop-rock production, we hear this internal dialogue from the trope of the “Girl Next Door.”

Listen to “Girl Next Door” off of her debut album, Temptress, below. Tiffany Johnson is new voice we’ve been waiting for!
