Alaina May grips your heart with her new single, “The Dog”

Date:

Making her way from Milwaukee, WI, to Brooklyn, NY, Alaina May is making herself known in the bedroom-pop and indie-rock music scene. A long time collaborator producing exciting works with indie-rock duo TOLEDO, she is now embarking on a new journey releasing her own original music.

Following the success of her first single “Casual,” Alaina takes a more slowed-down approach with “The Dog”. This track puts May in a position that feels like she is existing in a genre that is unique to her, yet still feels classic and honors the legacy of indie rock.

“The Dog” breathes with warm acoustics textures, airy harmonies, and intimate storytelling. May articulates how “loving like a dog” feels like a loyal-to-a-fault kind of affection that is both beautiful and perilous. This story is inspired by true events of falling in and out of love while raising her own puppy Aspen. The song draws parallels between a dog’s undying devotion and the ways we can lose sight of our own needs in the name of love.

May states,

“Without a doubt, loving deeply is so beautiful and is one of life’s wonders, but I’ve learned that healthy love will always consider the self alongside the other person. This song feels like a spilling out of where my brain has been on the topic of loving deeply. It sits in such a personal place within my being.”

Alaina May has created a sensitive and introspective song that will sit with you and rock your core. She leans into emotional intensity and vulnerability.  The feeling will breathe through the lyrics and exhale through Alaina May.

Be sure to listen to “The Dog,” out everywhere now.
