Spotify releases new “AI Persona” label for AI artist profiles

Date:

Spotify, the largest global music streaming platform, will start labeling AI-generated artists as an “AI Persona” as the next step to “ensure Spotify is the most transparent and trustworthy place to listen to music,” according to the official Spotify newsroom

The platform has also stated it has made Artist Identity & Trust one of its priorities with the launch of Verified by Spotify, SongDNA, AI Credits and Artist Profile Protection.

The new AI Persona badge will start appearing on profiles in September, signaling that the artist is AI-generated and not a real human. The badge will also appear on relevant profiles and similar artists, in banners, About sections, and the Search bar, and on track rows across playlists.

This new policy also affects new artists. Spotify will review any artists who apply for the badge and will notify them with the opportunity to self-disclose or appeal.

“Although there’s a broad spectrum in how artists use AI as a creative tool, the question of whether a profile represents an actual human is one where Spotify can help make a clear determination,” Spotify stated in the article.

“This badge is about the artist’s public identity, not about how the music was made. For more information about how the music was made, we offer AI Credits and SongDNA. With AI credits, we have seen that people are eager to take the opportunity to be transparent and share how they used AI as part of their song’s creative process. We’re hoping for a similar level of self disclosure for AI Personas.”
