Pia Mia feels defeated in “You Win”

Date:

Pia Mia released “You Win”, her second single of the year, on August 7. In her song, she exudes disappointment from an ex moving on from her while she’s still heartbroken. Regardless of dating not being a competition, Pia Mia feels like a loser because she hasn’t moved on.

She begins her song with guitar strums and starts to reflect on her failed relationship. Pia Mia is encouraged by others to move on already but she can’t.

As the bass goes up in her chorus, Pia Mia sings “All my friends say I should go out and dance / ‘A new boy is the best revenge’” but she is so heartbroken that she feels “There’s no way to get revenge.” You can feel her frustration in the next verse when she slowly sings “You don’t care how much I’m hurting / Hurting, hurting.”

Towards the end of her song, Pia Mia repeatedly sings “You win” while she asks herself in the background “Did you break my heart? / Or did I break my own?” She finishes with an outro filled with this confusion over guitar strums.

You can listen to “You Win” on SoundCloud and Spotify.
