mgk‘s latest single “times of my life” has officially made its streaming debut after a long time of being locked away in his vaults. Fans have been waiting for this drop for years, making the release that much more exciting.
Originally supposed to be on his critically acclaimed Tickets To My Downfall, “times of my life” has been a fan favorite unreleased track since it leaked a few years ago. Born Colson Baker, mgk had it added it to the lost americana tour pre-show playlist; fans recognized it almost immediately, and they could be heard singing along in their seats. The song was recorded initially in 2018 and made alongside Travis Barker, Nick Long, and JKash.
Opening up on the guitar, Baker gets apologetic while reflecting on a past relationship. He expresses his sorrow for the problems they faced throughout their love, then also celebrates that his best moments were within that time together; “I never knew pain / Until the day I didn’t look back when I left you / And I know (x3) that you don’t wanna hear it / But you know (x5) that / The best times of my life / Were the ones that had you”. Baker had to suppress this in order for him to get through ending the relationship, burying it in order to heal.
The raw expression of his lost relationship, nostalgia, and healing perfectly captured Baker’s bittersweet feeling of reminiscing on a past love.
“times of my life” is available now on all platforms.
