Canadian indie pop group New Friends have just released their latest single “Sad Sugar,” an intoxicating love song with hints of rock and roll.

“Sad Sugar” is fun, cheeky, and seductive; as the narrator describes their love interest, we as an audience get to pick up on small details that make her unique. The song manages to convey the intoxicating infatuation one feels when meeting someone special for the first time and how we get “stuck” on them.

The track has a balanced mix of indie rock elements with a distinct pop sensibility, drawing inspiration from 2000’s brit-pop and beyond. The constant chorus is easy to sing along to. Getting its edge from the high energy melodic rock vibe that pulsates through the entire song, “Sad Sugar” has an incredibly catchy sound that is also somewhat nostalgic.

Stream “Sad Sugar” on Spotify and Apple Music, now.
