Melodic Music Monday: March 23

Date:

Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:

——

OAKLND, “chicago, Pt. 2” – “chicago, Pt.2” is a melancholic indie-pop track that delves deep into the raw emotions of distance, loss, and the lingering echoes of a past relationship. The song has a cinematic feel that is full but still airy to the point of creating a harmonious sonic landscape.

——

jxdn, “Better Man”jxdn is taking us back to 2013 by channeling his inner Justin Bieber Journals era. His latest single “Better Man” dropped last Friday (March 13) and has amassed nearly 100,000 streams on Spotify. There’s no denying “Better Man” is a banger. Still, it’ll be interesting to see jxdn continue developing his own identity within R&B, rather than leaning too heavily into Bieber-inspired territory.

– Reagan Denning

——

Spacey Jane, “Do You Really Love Her” – After teasing the song by creating a Letterboxd account on which the four band members ranked their favorite movies, they released “Do You Really Love Her” on March 13 accompanied by a music video. The track is a melancholy post-breakup earworm, complete with moody chords and Caleb’s delightfully sulky voice. The song is about the fallout that comes after breaking up with a movie star, constantly being reminded of them every time you tune in to a new film.

– Sarah Space

——

Bilmuri and A Day To Remember, “ALWAYS LET YOU DOWN” – “Always Let You Down” was co-written with Jeremy and Noah Sebastian of Bad Omens. The epic collaboration is full of ethereal clean guitar, head-busting staccato picking, and a call-and-response chorus between Jeremy and Johnny Franck (the man behind Bilmuri) who seamlessly trade off the hook, “Tell me you don’t want me around ’cause I’ll always let you down.”
