Cate Tomlinson releases third single of 2024, “Like the boys”

Date:

Dance pop artist Cate Tomlinson released her newest single “Like the boys” on Aug. 2. The track is Tomlinson’s third single of 2024, joining recent releases “Half Lover” and “MY EX FRIEND”. The 23-year-old out of Los Angeles, Calif. takes inspiration from soul, pop, and rock to create energetic beats and pulsating melodies.

Tomlinson has received high praise from multiple publications since her first release, “notes app apology”, in 2022. Banger of the Day’s Chris Buxton writes, “She’s honest, intentional, and daring to the core”, and Giselle Libby from Ones to Watch observes, “Tomlinson’s music is personality pop that shows listeners her inner self through exploring emotions that aren’t always easy and tame”.

In “Like the boys”, Tomlinson explores the nerves felt with a new crush. She realizes her love for a girl she recently met, singing “She makes me feel like the boys do / Adrenaline when I say her name”. She expresses the vulnerability and excitement she feels with the words, “Having feelings like I’ve never had before / So much pressure, I need more”. Bolstered by clapping synths and a graceful yet powerful voice, Tomlinson captures her audience’s attention.
