Marking their first full-length effort in five years, Modest Mouse has announced the upcoming release of An Eraser and a Maze, arriving June 5. The album, which will be released via Glacial Pace Recordings (frontman Isaac Brock’s own label), signals a homecoming for the band as they reclaim their creative freedom and embark on a new era.
To kick off the new era, Modest Mouse shared the project’s lead single, “Picking Dragon’s Pockets.” A larger-than-life track with a catchy chorus, it sets the stage for an album centered on themes of progress and self-sabotage, accompanied by Brock’s trademark raw, blunt candor.
An Eraser and a Maze Tracklist:
1. Picking Dragon’s Pockets
2. Remember Yourself
3. Life’s A Dream
4. Third Side Of The Moon
5. Dogbed in Heaven/Give It A Skeleton
6. Interlude
7. I Can’t Talk Right Now
8. Speak ‘N Spell (Or Not)
9. Rotten Fruit (feat. Justin Raisen)
10. Knocked Down By Waves
11. Absolutely Necessary Never
12. Song About Nothing
13. Stoner Party
14. Look How Far
15. Impossible Somedays
Brock produced An Eraser and a Maze alongside collaborators Jacknife Lee (REM, The Killers), Suzy Shinn (Fall Out Boy, Dua Lipa), and Justin Raisen (Charli XCX). Conceptually, the band aimed to play with the physics of time by blending every era of their history into a single, cohesive sonic space. Brock described the recording process as “turning off the filter” to allow authentic emotion to surface, while preventing himself from over-intellectualizing his own work.
In addition to the album news, Modest Mouse has expanded their North American tour, adding dates in cities such as Los Angeles and New York City, while joining the powerhouse lineups of fan favorite festivals like Bonnaroo and Shaky Knees.
