Lynn Hollyfield is an award-winning folk singer-songwriter who explores the depths of our human condition through music. As I listened to her new song “Blindspot”, I was overwhelmed by the power that art has to heal people through connection. Hollyfield is the type of lyricist who makes you feel less alone in your struggles. Through evocative storytelling, a fearless catharsis of memories, and her rooted presence as an artist, Hollyfield sheds light on her darkest times so that she can guide others through their own.
“Blindspot” stuns with ruminative chords of acoustic guitar, soul-stirring harmonies, and grounded percussion that sinks an anchor into the heart of the track. She croons, “Sometimes we pretend we don’t have a clue / Our instincts don’t lie, they tell us the truth / You know something’s wrong / Do you show you care or downplay it?” Written about the loss of her family member and friend to fentanyl, Hollyfield reflects on the moments that resurface in retrospect.
Revealing more on the story behind her poignant track, Hollyfield confides, “Afterwards, I couldn’t help but wonder if I had been truly open and caring when I was with them. Was there anything I could have done to help them? I’ll never know and it’s one of those hard life lessons – too little too late.”
“Blindspot” was produced by GRAMMY-nominated Seth Glier. The music video for the song captures vivid memories shared with a loved one in contrast with desolate spaces now navigated alone. From her highly anticipated upcoming album Diving In, “Blindspot” is a moving tribute to those we’ve lost too soon.
