The Quiet North establishes power in gentleness in new single “First Warmth”

Date:

The Quiet North, the solo project of Norwegian producer Fredrik Kristiansen, has released a beautifully calming and uplifting single, “First Warmth.”

The aspects of the song that are so captivating are its unique premise and its delicately smooth vocals, reminiscent of Keane’s.

The song describes the first warm day after a harsh Nordic winter, and the hope and joy it brings. The instrumentation successfully captures the warm feeling of sunlight touching your face: it’s happy and exciting without being too strong.

Fredrik Kistiansen’s voice manages to emit gentleness and power at the same time, which is exactly what this song needs. His voice stays in a low range in the first verse while it hits a soft falsetto in the chorus, but in the second verse when he sings “no words, just a feeling spreading through your chest / the kind you don’t question, the kind that knows what’s next,” his voice blooms into a beautiful vibrato that rises to his middle range. It’s a subtle, slow buildup that affects you more the more you listen to it.
