Katy Perry has released a new single titled “bandaids,” her first offering since her 2024 album, 143. The new record is an empowering pop ballad reminiscent of some of her earlier works, such as “Wide Awake” and “Daisies.”
Lyrically, “bandaids” shares a bittersweet message about heartbreak, seemingly addressing Perry’s split from Orlando Bloom earlier this year. She opens the track singing, “Hand to God I promised I tried / There’s no stone left unturned / It’s not what you did / It’s what you didn’t / You were there but you weren’t.” In the second verse, Perry looks at the relationship more fondly: “On the bright side / We had good times / Never faked our pictures / We were perfect / Til we weren’t.”
In the Final Destination-inspired music video directed by Christian Breslauer, the California girl barely avoids death scene after scene. In true Katy Perry style, the campy visuals combine humor with tragedy, featuring the singer having her hand severed in a garbage disposal, getting her foot stuck in a train track, and slowly sinking in quicksand.
