Jon Bellion teamed up with Luke Combs on new single, “WHY,” written 2 days before Bellion’s son was born. Bellion describes his state of mind at that point in time: questioning everything about the journey he was about to undertake, becoming a father. He, alongside his friends and collaborators Amy Allen and Blake Slatkin, managed to funnel his thoughts and emotions into these lyrics, in turn creating an important piece exploring the anxieties of love and loss.

Bellion’s raw, unfiltered emotion is prevalent in his voice and is perfectly complemented by Combs’ rugged, warm baritone voice — the call-and-response section in the bridge showcases the stark yet harmonious contrast between the two. The stripped-back production sits subtly behind both vocalists, allowing them to take center stage. The lyrics, although simple, reflect what many people feel when experiencing love in any form.

The music video showcases a live recording session dotted with clips of Bellion’s son, making it a beautifully wholesome work of art. “WHY” was released as a single in anticipation of Bellion’s next album FATHER FIGURE, releasing in June this year.
