Stand Atlantic is back with the announcement of their fifth studio album GODBREATH, out on October 23rd via Virgin Music Group.
The Sydney pop-punk group also released their new single “LUCID,” giving fans another taste of the forthcoming record. The addictive effort was born from vocalist Bonnie Fraser’s creative fatigue towards the end of the record’s writing process. The lyrics tackle themes of self-sabotage, burnout, and endurance throughout its three minute duration, with Fraser singing, “Wide awake and lucid / Burn it all like I’m stupid / Still I wonder why / I’m barely gettin’ out alive.” It’s exactly what you’d anticipate from Stand Atlantic, but sharpened by a renewed sense of clarity with heavy guitars, piercing vocals and unflinching vulnerability.
GODBREATH promises to be the band’s most authentic record to date. Stand Atlantic utilized confessional songwriting, bold experimentation and a live-tracked recording process to further challenge themselves while reinforcing their genre-defying identity and magnetic chemistry as a band. Lead single, “Velcro,” dropped earlier this summer and first showcased their evolving versatility, leaning into their softer side for a bouncy lovestruck anthem. Speaking on the album, Fraser shares,
“To me, ‘GODBREATH’ means being the most authentic version of yourself. It’s someone who will do whatever they need to do to get shit done. It’s the consequence of those moments when you’re really leaning into what you do, and you feel on top of the world. When being that honest and open just creates this whole other thing within you. It’s about speaking and owning your truth.”
Stand Atlantic is set to return to the Vans Warped Tour stage next weekend in Long Beach, CA. The band will also be joining Simple Plan as support for their UK tour this fall. Tickets and information for Stand Atlantic’s upcoming shows can be found here.
