Irish indie rock quartet Inhaler is back to their old sound. The band, made up of Elijah Hewson, Robert Keating, Ryan McMahon, and Josh Jenkinson, just released their newest single following the release of their third studio album Open Wide.
Their album was produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Kid Harpoon and offered a new sound for the band with some psychedelic rock undertones. But in their newest single, “Hole In The Ground,” they’ve seemingly gone back to their melancholic indie rock roots.
The new song might come as a shock to some, as they just were on tour supporting Open Wide, which came out in February. It’s safe to say many fans did not expect new music to come so soon. The band also dropped the song just days away from their sold-out Halloween show in London, adding to the surprise. The unexpected nature of the release leaves many to wonder if there will be more music coming before the end of the year, hinting at a new project.
Frontman Elijah Hewson expressed that this song marked a new blank slate for them after taking some time away from writing. Musically, there is much of the band’s earlier indie sound. From the yearning in the vocal delivery to the steady drum beat, it seems like a nice surprise for longtime fans and sounds like they are closing the chapter of the Open Wide era.
Considering they just wrapped their UK leg of tour, marking their overall last run of the Open Wide tour and the release of the song coming nearly at the end it almost comes off as a thank you to the fans who were along for the ride of this musical era. It could also signal a stay tuned for more
