Girl Wilde Releases latest single “could’ve been”

Date:

Florida native Girl Wilde has just released “could’ve been,” a pop song channeling the likes of Leith Ross and Quinnie.

In classic pop fashion, the song starts with a sharp acoustic guitar with the fret movement loud and clear. Shiny synth keys kick in with the bare sound giving way to electric guitars and a strong kick drum in the chorus. As the song is short, the chorus makes a lot of effort to give some energy but is cut off by the verses’ quick return. The drum itself is very close and crisp but the bass guitar is able to take up much more space.

Lyrically, the song is pretty simple. Girl Wilde sings about uncertainty over love after several rounds of failed relationships. In the first verse, “love won’t hurt like that” shows that the singer-songwriter admits that she’s not sure if she ever fallen in love despite being “taken to bed.” In the chorus, the line “I’m so sick of trying” highlights the cynical nature of the song, but each phrase is always cut short and with a lack of a bridge or pre-chorus, the song is quickly finished.

Girl Wilde’s latest song is kept short and sweet as the indie-pop artist continues to develop her artistry and sound. “could’ve been” is set to be another addition to the more folk sounds of the traditional pop artist.
