Rising rock ‘n’ roll sister duo Girl Tones share their latest single, “Blame,” along with a ’70s-inspired music video. Along with the single and video, the duo announce that they are the first act to be signed under the newly-founded record label Parallel Vision.
Since making their musical introduction with last year’s debut single “Fade Away,” the classically trained intergalactic duo have steadily risen within the rock scene. Through each of their releases, Girl Tones explore every corner of rock ‘n’ roll, flawlessly mastering everything from punk to indie while still maintaining their signature fiery impact.
In their latest single, sisters Kenzie and Laila reflect on teenage angst, learning what it means to take accountability. “Originally I wrote ‘Blame’ totally differently, it was out of teenage spite, the lyrics were blaming everyone but myself,” Kenzie says.
“When we brought it to the studio, being in my mid-twenties, I now have a very different outlook on life and rewrote most of it. As you get older, relationships become more complicated, truthfully who is to blame if they fail? In the song we play with that idea of right and wrong, pride and vulnerability. ‘Blame’ explores the emotional weight of unresolved conflict and how the need for accountability can clash with pride and pain. It’s difficult to pursue forgiveness in yourself and others.”
The vintage-inspired music video for “Blame” was filmed in Nashville’s famous Dive Motel which, in its prime, served the likes of Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and Dolly Parton. Now, Girl Tones are the latest addition to the landmark motel’s iconic guest list. Incorporating the sisters’ devout love for all things retro, the music video also portrays Girl Tones amping up the sibling rivalry as the two make numerous jabs at one another throughout the video.
Along with the single and video release, Girl Tones announce that they are the first act to sign on to Parallel Vision. A joint venture under Big Loud Rock, the new label is founded by Daniel Oakley, Darren Potuck and Cage The Elephant co-founder Brad Shultz. Shultz worked as producer on Girl Tones’ early singles “Fade Away,” “Again” and “I Know You Know” and released them through Parallel Vision.
Along with this recent excitement, Girl Tones still have a busy year ahead. Having opened up for Cage The Elephant, The Velveteers and hey, nothing on their respective tours earlier this year, Girl Tones are heading out on the road again this July to support Silversun Pickups on their North American tour. Along with these shows, Girl Tones will also make their festival debut at Lollapalooza, Shaky Knees and Austin City Limits.
Through their eclectic yet highly intentional artistry, Girl Tones have truly established themselves as one of rock ‘n’ roll’s most exciting and refreshing new acts. Able to explore a multitude of subgenres while still maintaining their unique sonic and visual identity, Girl Tones are an out-of-this-world duo that one truly must see to believe.
