Today, punk duo Girl Tones have dropped their debut single “Fade Away” via Parallel Vision. Composed of sisters Kenzie and Laila, Girl Tones’ inaugural music effort combines punk, new wave and blues rock to create a final concoction that’s nothing less of a fiery musical debut.
Both classically trained musicians, Kenzie and Laila originally played cello and piano, respectively. Soon, the sisters decided to drop such a polished musical style in favor of something grittier and wild, and Kenzie took on the guitar and vocals while Laila tackled the drums. Produced by Brad Shultz and recorded at Nashville’s Battle Tapes studio, “Fade Away” shows that Girl Tones have arrived onto the music scene with their own unique perseverance and sound.
Their classical training shows within their debut single, as the two deliver a compelling and complex musicality in their effective take on rock and roll. Balancing fuzzy guitars with vulnerable lyrics, Girl Tones deliver a story of heartbreak and fading away from a relationship gone sour.
Regarding the debut single, Kenzie says, “‘Fade Away’ is about being vulnerable and slowly getting burned over and over again by someone you love, to the point you have to move on with your life. You’re hurt, you’re angry, you’re owed an apology.”
“I stitch my heart right to my sleeve
Hoping for a quick recovery
And as the flames wither and fade my passion dissipates
Fade away”
Currently, Girl Tones is on tour supporting Cage the Elephant on their Neon Pill tour and will play the official Cage the Elephant afterparty in New York along side Gloom Girl MFG.
With a sound that is definitively punk rock and undeniably otherworldly, intergalactic punk duo Girl Tones are only just starting their journey into listeners’ ears, and they don’t plan on slowing down the ride any time soon.
