Sometimes, we consume without wondering how or why something came to be. For instance, a child’s toy—we know what it does, but who came up with the idea for this toy? How was it made? Same thing with companies, brands… How do these things come into existence?

For those who find themselves asking these questions, PLLRS breaks it down. The live speaker series spotlights visionaries, leaders, and legacy builders across various industries who know what it is like to bring a dream to life. They tell inspiring, educational stories that connect communities and make for powerful moments. And with PLLRS expanding into the podcast realm, the stories are now endless.

PLLRS was co-created by Keith Nelson, Jr.; Reg Calixte; and Rose M. Mercado, M.A.Ed., who are dedicated to the narrative. The cultural curators and storytellers bring their expertise and creative visions to the Won of One podcast, which is hosted by Calixte. His curiosity and humble authenticity plays a huge part in every conversation with guests on the show, ensuring that every episode is deep, influential, and authentic.

On the latest episode of Won of One, Calixte sits down with Dreamville Ventures’ Vice President of Creative Services, Felton Brown. Here, Brown gets into his 15+ year friendship with J. Cole and how he contributed to the creative aesthetic of Dreamville Records over the years. While Dreamville Records has ended its partnership with Universal Music Group, it will still crank out new music as an independent label, and a key player in this is J. Cole. J. Cole released his seventh studio album, The Fall-Off, back in February, to much acclaim. Brown mentions,

“Right now, my eye is aimed at another project, post roll-out, for the album that I’m working on. That’s another big key to keep interest going for the project and keep people talking about it.”

Brown also touches on his career journey, from interning at Def Jam during DMX’s time to being one of the first bloggers to support J. Cole to learning from music video legend Director X. His story aims to encourage other business creatives to get out there and pursue their creative passions. You can watch the full episode below.
