Ax and the Hatchetmen bring the self-deprecating vibes with “Loser”

Date:

Whether you have seen them at Bonnaroo or Summerfest, or if you are about to see them opening for Royel Otis, Ax and the Hatchetmen have had a busy summer. Their vibrant anthems and indie-rock jams are the perfect songs to guide fans through the long summer days, whether these fans are just chilling at the pool or going on road trips with friends. One song in particular, “Hotel Room,” has just surpassed 150M views across TikTok and 550K daily streams, showing that these fans are definitely here for the band’s bright signature sound. They also want more, which is why a strong buzz has been building after Ax and the Hatchetmen dropped teasers on social media for their latest single.

Described by the press as a “self-aware, fist-pumping ode to falling short,” “Loser” is the song you turn to when you are feeling low—or when dealing with someone falling just short of your expectations. It could be an ex, a shady romantic interest on a dating app, or a crazy hookup gone wrong… It all sucks the same, but Ax and the Hatchetmen make it suck a little less by taking on the role of a self-aware loser. Over anthemic guitar riffs and swells, we hear, “Kick me out before I piss you off / Can’t fix your tire, won’t jump your car / But I can break your heart,” as this “loser” vents about their flaws.

The band shares,

“‘Loser’ can’t keep it together. It’s been at the bar since 4 pm. It’s waiting for the world to bend to its liking instead of looking inward to fix its problems. More than often, it doesn’t make it out of bed till afternoon and has no idea how to fix a flat tire. Sometimes, it might lie or steal to get what it wants, but it can’t wait for a shower beer later. Worse off, it’ll break your heart for no good reason. Somewhere way down there might be a glimmer of remorse—hard to say. Hopefully someday it’ll learn, but that’s tomorrow’s problem.”
