To celebrate the announcement of their debut EP, Polish indie rock group Bagdad have released their debut single, “Valley of Dry Bones,” via Rite Field Records. Bagdad’s EP, They Don’t Know, is slated for a March 27 release. The opening track on the upcoming record, “Valley of Dry Bones” is a nostalgic number that brings ’90s grunge back to the present. Through frontman Franciszek Drobiński’s gritty vocals and soft, electric guitars, “Valley of Dry Bones” sounds like a lost track from your favorite ’90s rock band.

Regarding the inspiration for the song, Drobiński says:

“I wrote this song in 2021, I was just sitting at home playing guitar and this theme popped into my head, which later became the main riff. Later, when I was writing the lyrics to it, a picture I saw once in some book as a child came to mind. It was a scene from the Bible, depicting Ezekiel’s vision of The Valley of Dry Bones. The song was a bit about something else, but the image stuck in my mind so much that it became the title.“

Combining the melancholy elements of slowcore or shoegaze with the uplifting and catchy tones of alt-rock, Bagdad bring through their debut a sonic nostalgia and exciting familiarity. As they combine their Eastern European influences with grunge sorrow, Bagdad have established for themselves an artistry that is unique, grounding and emotive.

Hailing from Wrocław, Poland, and founded in 2023, Bagdad is composed of Drobiński (guitar, vocals), Wojciech Stach (bass) and Jakub Gadamski (drums). After the trio became friends in school, Bagdad quickly began to take shape. The band recorded They Don’t Know in the summer of 2024, incorporating European nostalgia into their ’90s rock musicality. Their music is grounding and solid, but still manages to take the listener somewhere wondrous before slamming through their speakers with an unmatched musical intensity.
