Alternative rockstar Ashnikko has done it again: just weeks ahead of her highly anticipated album, Smoochies, the blue-haired demidevil traps listeners in her little trinket emporium with her second single, “Sticky Fingers.”
On the new single, Ashnikko shares,
“we have a very finite time on this earth, and i would rather spend my time investing in my friends and new skills and going on adventures, than being with someone (especially a man) who doesn’t love me how i love me. get your sticky cheeto dust hands off me!!”
Amid double entendres and promiscuous imagery, this song is ultimately about a hot woman telling a gross boy to get his gross hands off of her. Ashnikko can handle herself, and to that, he is just a novelty item: “You see me and you see heaven / You’re my personal hell / Anticlimactic / Get your sticky fingers off me, boy.”
This sentiment continues from her debut album WEEDKILLER (2023) and earlier mixtape DEMIDEVIL (2021), and while the unapologetic artist continues to progress her sound, she manages to stick to her roots simultaneously.
Ashnikko blends her own authentic sound with beats reminiscent of the late 2000s, so much so that you could add this new track into a playlist between The Pussycat Dolls and Britney Spears, and one would think “Sticky Fingers” was made some twenty years ago.
The visualizer brings fans back to Ashnikko’s Smoochies world, first introduced with singles “Itty Bitty” and “Trinkets,” which debuted earlier this summer. The “Slumber Party” singer appears in a gumball machine amid 2000s-themed knick-knacks and candies, including keychains, pool balls, and naked Barbie dolls. Slip a coin into the slot, and win a two-minute trip back to Y2K.
On the upcoming album, she shares:
“‘Smoochies’ feels like ‘Demidevil”s older sister. It’s sexy, playful, and feminine, while toeing the line of grotesque and absurd. I feel like purse sediment so much of the time–like a mess of crumbs and gum in receipts and lipgloss that I’ve forgotten about–so the album feels like that too. This is the first where I’ve written very autobiographically, but at the core of it all is personal autonomy and joyful whimsy.”
Ashnikko’s second studio album, Smoochies, will debut on October 17, available to pre-save here.
