American alt-rock band Anberlin’s newest single “Walk Alone” promises exactly the opposite

Date:

Anberlin introduce their featured single “Walk Alone”, a 2000s pop rock anthem and ode to those struggling with depression. “Walk Alone” is the first track released off the five-piece band’s upcoming record, Vega, set to release later this summer.

The song starts strong, wasting no time intriguing the listener with a kick drum beat that feels like a fast heartbeat. An electric guitar accompanies the rest of the instrumentals, including heavier percussion and bass. “We fall apart together you and I”, the song describes in the third line. The chorus guarantees a promise to “Cry with you, hurt with you, bleed for you” in half time signature. After the second reprise of the chorus, up to the bridge there is yet another halftime but even more intense than the first. The last rendition of the chorus line quartet is stripped down to only the lead vocals and electric guitar. The constant change in tempo allows different moments in the song to have variances of poignancy. Allowing the tempo change and matching it with the lyrics gives even more meaning to the sonics and message within the song.

“Walk Alone” is a song that encourages audience participation when played live and deals with subject matter that can be difficult to talk about in real life, but perhaps a little easier to understand in the song itself. It has an unbeatable energy and an undeniably head-banging feel, ultimately allowing for feelings of hopefulness no matter the circumstances.
