“A sound described as Halsey meets Chelsea Cutler.” This describes the sonically beautiful storytelling and lyricism of artist KAKI (yes, pronounced like the pants.) An indie pop artist based in LA and born in Columbus, OH, KAKI is most commonly known for her cutting-edge wit when it comes to storytelling of the in-between moments: the confusion, vulnerability, and excitement of dating culture.
Her newest single, “Elephant In The Room,” is a questioning challenge — a challenge of feeling overlooked in love and wondering if you’ll ever meet somebody or find “the one.” It’s a song perfect for the ones crying solo in their rooms at 3 am with lyrics like “Never talked to, someone else’s territory / Still standing here, watching someone else’s story / With every closing door / I look at love like a chore / I’m the thing no one wants to do / A girl that you ignore / you always want my friends more / But it’s nothing new, the elephant in the room.”
In regards to the writing process, KAKI shared:
“I solo wrote this song in my room when I was feeling frustrated in dating and feeling like everyone puts such an emphasis on love and if you don’t have a partner you’re in the waiting period to find them.”
