Meet Lake Drive, an up and coming pop-rock band that is set to redefine the genre for a new generation of listeners. In a scene that is constantly evolving, it is refreshing to find a band that stays true to the genre, while also adding their own unique twist.
The band was formed in the heart of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and is made up of four members, lead vocalist Rayven Burdette, guitarist Brandon Detaege, bassist Trevor Gallagher, and drummer Adam Secord. Having met through mutual friends, they immediately felt a connection and knew they had something special. They are heavily influenced by artists like mgk and The 1975.
Perhaps one of their most notable qualities is their stage presence. The band’s chemistry is undeniable and their live shows are nothing short of electrifying. They are set to go on a mini tour this fall, traveling to Minneapolis, Iowa City, Milwaukee, Chicago, and Indianapolis.
Today is a big day for Lake Drive, as they’ve just released their newest single, “Overrated”, which is available on all streaming platforms. Along with the single, comes an announcement for their newest EP, Post-Internet Romance, which will be released on October 11th of this year.
When you write songs, are they based on general ideas or things that you’ve personally experienced?
I think they end up being stories from our own experiences, but it’s not by choice. I listen back to the lyrics and I’m like oh my god, these lyrics are about my life. My subconscious brings them out. A lot of our songs are about our experiences dating in the post internet age.
How would you describe your writing process?
We used to all jam together, but in its cutrrtent state, I write a lot of the demos. I get them 60% of the way there. I structure out the songs, get the melodies, lyrics, and the themes of the songs down and then I throw them at the boys and they turn them into something far greater. They have their own spin on the parts that I’ve written and they make them true songs!
What is the story behind your new single Overrated?
The process for that song was actually a lot of fun. Brandon had a cool synth intro idea and I was like oh we can work with that. what if we mess with certain automated frequencies to make it move a little more. Usually our songs are about certain people, but for this particular song, I just had an idea. The chorus was just in my head. Writing the versus was a little tricky, but we all sat down and tried to find the right words that sound good together and mean something.
What can your listeners expect to hear on your upcoming EP?
A lot of emotion. I would say a lot of variety of different sounds. It tells its own little story. No matter who listens to it, it will apply to their life if they’ve ever gone through heartbreak or ever experienced a deep yearning for love. I think for our core audience, they will appreciate a lot of the lyricism. Each song has a different feel and we played around with a lot of genres.
