Flying toward the sun in Jutes’ new single “Icarus”

Date:

In a rock retelling of one of Greek mythology’s tragic tales, Jutes embodies the story of the wax wings with his newest single, “Icarus.” After the success of his last single, “Disassociate,” Jutes uses this new song to describe a time in his career when he felt the most invisible, flying too high toward the sun for any warmth — for anybody to notice him and his accomplishments.

In an interview with ABC Radio, the artist shares more about the single:

” I was just, like, so hungry to be noticed…[‘Icarus’] is just touching on those past feelings….”

He draws parallels to Icarus’ myth with lyrics like, “I wanna dive, dive / into a concrete ocean in the night, night / Wind beneath my wings, hope I can fly, fly / Finally I’m a star, look in the sky.”

In addition to this homage, the artist also opens up about his previous substance abuse, explaining how it felt like a way to get closer to God: “Drugs and sex are I all ever want / both just bring close enough to God / just for her to laugh and tell me off / As if I thought I’d ever have a shot / looking for a way to find myself / in the places that I know I’m not / So why not.”

It’s a sentimental and wonderfully curated story of the rise, fall, and rise again in his career. Check out the music video below:
