In anticipation of her upcoming debut English album, K-Pop multi-hyphenate AleXa is giving a voice to the introverted in new single, “Joy of Missing Out.”
The Oklahoma-born artist first reached success as a dancer, participating in and winning Korean competition shows and signing to ZB Label. The polyglot has developed a dynamic music career in the K-Pop world, but, with four English singles out this year, AleXa is testing the boundaries of her abilities.
Blending heavy pop punk guitars with a powerhouse voice, AleXa is one to watch for her modern take on the rock genre. With a sound reminiscent of Avril Lavigne and Olivia Rodrigo, while carrying a unique vocal, “Joy of Missing Out” is the perfect track for empowerment.
The new single acts as “an anthem for introverts,” written with her friends in mind. As such, she pens lyrics like “don’t wanna crash your party / I just wanna crash,” in hopes of resonating with those who prefer their alone time to a social gathering:
“I, myself, am an extrovert, but I’m the only one in my friend group. This song goes out to all those who’d rather party by themselves than get lost in the crowd.”
With a play on the phrase, “fear of missing out,” the song’s chorus flips the expression on its head to deprive it from instilling that worry many are taught to experience when not involved in social gatherings or events. Instead, AleXa mocks those who often instill this fear by singing, “honestly, you’re missing out / On the joy of missing out.”
In addition to the song, AleXa has also released a colorful lyric video that captures the singer’s vibrant aesthetics:
AleXa is also coming back to the United States for a few shows this fall, hoping to meet her hometown fans and perform the new music for them. Check her out this month in a city near you!
