Praised for the melancholy catharsis he exudes in his artistry, Dermot Kennedy is one of indie music’s most prominent singer-songwriters. With the release of his new single “Let Me In” on March 11, the Irish star is showing the world his new artistic chapter.

Regarding the new single, Kennedy has said it felt like a delivery of the words he had been waiting a long time to say. In an Instagram post discussing the single, Kennedy said, “‘Let Me In’ is a song about the struggle to find true happiness, and the people and places that have brought me closest to it in my life.” An incredibly emotive track, Kennedy’s distinct vocal prowess blends flawlessly with the song’s acoustic guitar composition.

Along with the release of his new single, Kennedy has been busy in other aspects of his career. Last year, the “Power Over Me” singer announced he would be putting together Misneach Festival, a music festival intending to highlight Irish musical artists. The festival’s first date will take place on March 16 — St. Patrick’s Day — in Sydney, Australia, with Kennedy headlining the day-long event. He will be joined by The Frames, Matt Corby, Kneecap and more.

On March 18 and 19, the second festival lineup will take place in Boston, Massachussetts. A two-day long event, Kennedy will also headline this Misneach date, and will be joined by The Swell Seasons, Ye Vagabond, Nell Mescal, and more.

Renowned for his significant take on the folk genre, Kennedy infuses pop and hip-hop influences to give a modern breath of fresh air to his music. With the release of “Let Me In,” as well as his upcoming festival dates, there’s no doubt that exciting things remain on the horizon for Kennedy, and fans should keep a close eye on the indie pop artist.
