Rex & The Rhythm Celebrates the Power of Community at ‘Dino Nite’ in Los Angeles

Date:

Celebrating his freshly released single “Umbrella”, Rex & The Rhythm threw an unforgettable ‘Dino Nite’ at Tiny Room Studios in Los Angeles. The Barbados-bred, Los Angeles based musician made it feel like everyone there was a part of his family. From watching his Mom snap photos in the front row, to inviting his Dad on stage for an utterly incredible rendition of Bob Marley & The Wailers’ “Jamming”, Rex & The Rhythm gave us an unfiltered and stunningly pure slice of his life.

There are too many highlights to name from the evening spent with Rex. He started the set from behind his drum kit offering grippingly precise vocal displays over powerful notes of percussion. Making his way to centerstage to perform his unexpected breakup anthem “Umbrella”, Rex & The Rhythm dove deep through the treacherous waves of his emotions as he foraged through scars of his past.

Spicing up the night with a 90s medley featuring covers from A Tribe Called Quest, Ginuwine, and Bell Biv DeVoe, Rex & The Rhythm paid tribute to his fellow 90s babies in the crowd. Ending the night with an infectious offering of optimism, Rex played us out with his moving track “Secrets Behind Our Smiles”. The song reminds us all to respect each other even in the face of obstacles, and trust that hope is always on the other side of the horizon.

Rex & The Rhythm was formerly a member of the Caribbean pop group Cover Drive. He has opened for an impressive array of artists including Rihanna, Kelly Clarkson, Ashanti, and Lauryn Hill. “Umbrella” is his latest release.
