Weekly Roundup: October 3

Date:

Every week the Melodic staff assembles a Weekly Roundup playlist of songs we can’t stop listening to.
Here are some of the highlights:

1. “Cold Killer” – noelle
“With ‘Cold Killer,’ noelle calls out all the heartbreakers. To a brisk beat that screams 80s-style aerobics class, noelle sings, ‘I never should’ve trusted you / I never should’ve laid my heart on the line’ and ‘To you it’s just another game / Cross another heart off of your list.’ Her vengeful vocals soar in the choruses where she claims, ‘You’re a cold killer, looking for a heart to break.'”
– Christine Sloman

2. “This Is Why” – Paramore
“…the song is an infectious pop-punk-leaning earworm that perfectly blends the pop experimentation of After Laughter with intense lyrics that center around life in our post-truth world.”
– Jones Willingham

3.  “Oh Downhill” – Hazlett
“Throughout the EP, his lyrics have a soft, warm glow, and burn brightest on the final track, which reads like a poem. He sings, ‘Feeling hard to care / When the moon’s in Aries now / Living in repair / How could the world just stare us down?'”
– Lexi Whitney

4. “Firefly” – Shygirl
“I was completely unfamiliar with Shygirl before I saw that the artist’s latest EP, Shlut, was part of this week’s staff picks for the Roundup. I’m always fascinated when someone can figure out a way to do something that sounds familiar yet very unique at the same time. You’ll have to listen for yourself to hear what I mean.”
– Chelsea
