Cavetown Shares Emotional New Song “Sharpener”

Date:

UK powerhouse singer, songwriter and producer Cavetown is back again with an emotional song in “Sharpener”. Cavetown, a.k.a Robin Skinner has been making bedroom pop ever since 2013 under the name Cavetown. Music is clearly in his DNA. When he was only 14 he started posting original songs and covers on YouTube as well as daily vlogs and behind the scenes videos that caught the attention of thousands of people. His optimistic outlook and honest songwriting resonates with so many of his fans and that’s what makes him so amazing.  At only 21 years old Cavetown has released countless projects and collaborated with some of the next up and coming artists. He self released 2015’s Cavetown, 2016’s 16/04/16, and 2018’s breakthrough Lemon Boy as well as Animal Kingdom, a five part mixtape of songs, covers, and updated versions of old songs. Along with releasing his own content, he has also helped out other up and coming artists like mxmtoon who he co-wrote and produced her debut album The Masquerade with, and Chole Moriondo who he worked with on her upcoming label debut. Speaking of collaborations, he also worked with MyKey on “Was It Something I Said” and Tessa Violet on “Smoke Signals”. There’s nothing Cavetown can’t do.

Just this year Cavetown released his debut major label album Sleepyhead, which was recorded, mixed, and produced all by him in London. It’s a stellar work of art and it proves just how versatile he is as an artist. Since the release He now has over 250 million Spotify plays, 5 million listeners, and 1.5 million YouTube subscribers so its safe to say people love his work. He did so not with a viral hit or easy gimmicks, but rather pure heart, filling his YouTube channel with day-in-the-life, behind-the-scenes vignettes and covers. Coupled with his original, self-recorded music, Skinner’s unassuming-yet-captivating personality took the internet by storm, catapulting him to millions of streams and subscribers and stages around the world, including recent sold-out headline performances at venues like Los Angeles’ Fonda Theatre, New York City’s Webster Hall and London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire, as well as Reading & Leeds and TRNSMT Festival.

Now Cavetown is back with a heartfelt song in “Sharpener”.  “Sharpener is about unhealthy coping mechanisms, the shame surrounding them, and how sometimes the need for them never truly goes away. But what does change is your self-control, and growing up involves replacing these things with healthier alternatives. Even so, the temptation can feel like a parasite hanging on no matter how hard you try to shake it off, Cavetown explainsIt’s an extremely personal and authentic song that many can resonate with.  The accompanying video to the song is just as beautiful. It’s an animated video directed by Cheng Qiu, which is a visual representation of one’s struggle with demons and self-harm, following a teenager and their imaginary friend who is a looming negative influence encouraging them to do bad things. The acoustic nature and Cavetown’s sweet soft vocals will certainly make you cry. It’s raw and authentic and one of Cavetowns best work to date.
