Steve Lacy brought his first solo tour to Orange County this past Monday, playing an amazing sold out show at Santa Ana’s Observatory. Lacy gained recognition as the guitarist from The Internet, a Grammy-nominated R&B group from Los Angeles. The guitarist released his first solo album, Apollo XXI, this past May and began touring in support of the release about a month ago. The show consisted solely of Lacy and his DJ (though he did bring out a few family members to do backup vocals on one song) as he alternated between skillfully plucking at a guitar and dancing freely across the stage. The crowd was overjoyed to not only hear songs from his new album, but also a few older tracks from his 2017 debut EP, Steve Lacy’s Demo. As if it was not already obvious from the smile he had on his face for a majority of the show, Lacy also mentioned how excited he was to be playing the venue, recalling that the last time he had performed there was on the much smaller Constellation Room stage. The North American leg of Steve Lacy’s tour has just wrapped up with a final show in Los Angeles and will pick up again in Europe on November 12th.
