The word “simulacra” refers to the philosophical idea of a reinterpretation of a personal thing, serving as a fitting title for this record.
Ebbing into the EP is “Freedom Layers (Pilchard Rounds).” This mellow track sounds like the epitome of relaxing on the beach or hanging out in a posh hotel lounge. It features groove-funk vibes with a hint of jazz to make you feel relaxed and at ease. One listen and you feel like you’ve arrived at a luxurious airport where the travel experience feels first class.
Flowing from airports into uncharted destinations is “Ara Macao.” It begins with hypnotic drum beats and switches to a psychedelic-jazz fusion accompanied by a cacophony of synthesisers and flutes. It makes for a mesmerizing time falling in love in Macau’s nightlife, dominated by the city’s lights.
“Dreamsteam” is the standout track on the EP. A mix of pan flutes, natural sounds, and synthesisers hits you right in your senses as your worries disappear into thin air and you enter into a flow state of alertness and wonder.
“Hau” is the final track. It harkens back to music that might be heard while on hold on a phone call, waiting to speak to a representative. The percussive beats and the psychedelic groove entice listeners into a trance-like state.
Eric Demuro’s Simulacra fuses natural sounds in with multiple genres to create the ultimate cinematic chill-hop record.
