Out of Chicago comes a pop punk band with deep roots in the genre. When The Sun Sets recently released “Villain (You Can Hate Me)” off of their newest EP of the same name.
The song is about being in a relationship where the narrator is constantly painted as the “bad guy” in every argument. The narrator is upset by the actions of their partner and has given up on the idea of mending the relationship, telling their partner that when they part ways “you can hate me, like I hate you”.
With a strong guitar and bouncy percussion, the musicality is reminiscent of the classic 2000s pop punk bands that came before When The Sun Sets. While the band is able to reference other pop punk bands, their sound provides modern vocals and lyricism that keep “Villain (You Can Hate Me)” sounding new and fresh.
