Weezer commemorate ‘Blue Album’ with special 30th anniversary edition out Nov. 1

Weezer is commemorating the 30th anniversary of their debut album, Blue Album, with a special edition, set for release on Nov. 1 via Geffen/UMe. Originally released on May 10, 1994, by DGC Records and produced by Ric Ocasek of The Cars, the album became a multi-platinum success, earning triple platinum status in 1995. It remains Weezer’s best-selling album and considered one of the greatest albums of all time by Rolling Stone and a defining record of the 1990s.

The 30th Anniversary Edition will be available as a Super Deluxe Edition box set, featuring the newly remastered album from the original analog tapes across 12-inch 180-gram LPs, along with a 10-inch EP and 7-inch vinyl.The set includes 50 tracks, 36 of which are previously unreleased. Highlights include eight “Kitchen Tape” demos, 22 early practice and live recordings, six BBC radio tracks (two previously unheard) and four songs from their LMU sessions.

Fans will also receive the earliest known recording of “Undone – The Sweater Song (Third Practice)”, along with four lithographs, a poster, a song-themed sticker sheet, a 12-sided die and an enamel Bokkus pin. The Deluxe 3CD Set comes with the same bonus items, along with a 28-page issue No. 18 of the Weezine.

Additionally, an Ultra Limited Edition box set will be available, featuring all the contents of the Super Deluxe set, but wrapped in a hand-knit sweater with a certificate signed by the band. Only 100 of these special editions will be sold exclusively on Weezer’s webstore. 

The Blue Album will also be available in various vinyl formats: 

  • 2LP 45 rpm half-speed mastering on 180-gram black vinyl, housed in a premium gatefold jacket with silver foil paper, bonus photos, and an exclusive poster (available only via Interscope.com)
  • 1LP Zoetrope Picture Disc (available on Weezer.com, uDiscover Music, and Sound of Vinyl)
  • 1LP Ghostly Blue & Clear Color Vinyl (available exclusively at indie record stores)
