Up-and-coming pop R&B artist TEHYA releases “dust dog” off of debut EP

Date:

24-year-old Filipino-Native American singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist TEHYA has just released her highly anticipated debut EP SORRY FOR THE WAIT via Neon Gold Records / Futures Music. The EP is filled with exciting singles, with “dust dog” being a rhythmic and punchy cross-genre pop tune filled with groovy production.

Joining the propellant alt-pop label that first released Charli XCX, Laufey, Tove Lo and more, TEHYA is being billed as the next-up DIY pop artist. “dust dog” finds TEHYA reflecting on a toxic breakup through the lens of a dog anticipating its owner’s return, the main hook being: “Find me at the door waiting for you / Lord, please be the sign I’m moving forward / Rolling over to my knees and I fall / Like a dust dog.” TEHYA adds,

“I was sent off by my label to a remote cabin to finish this EP. While we were there, we met a dog named ‘Gucci’. I was going thru arguably the worst type of break up and sort of analogized Gucci’s love of sunbathing in the dirt waiting around for his people to come home with my perspective of myself in that relationship.”

The new track features production from Cameron Hale (Khalid, Kiana Ledé) as well as TEHYA herself. Combining an infectious bass/kick beat, electronic elements, and even a swelling horn addition to the last chorus, “dust dog” is a straight up bop.
