British R&B sensation Jorja Smith has officially kicked off her next musical era. After keeping fans on the edge of their seats, Smith has announced her next album, What Are The Odds, to debut on August 21 via FAMM.
Smith has also dropped a collaboration titled “Alive” featuring Nigerian Afrobeats icon Wizkid. The hit single was produced by Smith’s longtime producer and collaborator P2J, effectively following Smith’s signature warm percussion and smooth rhythms, building a perfect love letter to the butterflies you feel during a blooming romance.
Smith opened up about how naturally the collaboration came to her and how easy the hit came to be in an interview with Billboard: “Making this with P2J and WizKid felt really easy,” Smith said.
“We wrote and recorded it together in London. I think we captured that feeling when you’re at the beginning of something with someone and everything feels exciting. I’ve always loved WizKid’s music and the way he’s opened so many doors for Afro beats around the world, so it feels really special and a big honor to have a song with him.”
Following her successful 2023 studio album, Falling or Flying, What Are The Odds leans heavily into club-ready beats, weaving together Afro-house and grime. Smith also promises her fans the same emotional depth that she always delivers, focusing on themes of growth, loss, love, and friendship.
