The elusive New York nu-metal, shoegazey, alt-alt rocker Suzy Clue returns with just her third officially released single, “Uneasy,” accompanied by a darkly moody music video. The track features production by Suzy Clue and 100 Gec’s Dylan Brady, benefiting greatly from his uniquely punched out instrumentation.
Suzy Clue is a true representation of independent music. Self-taught, largely self-produced, and carving out a niche of her own in the alt-rock world, it’s truly refreshing to see her build something from the ground up. The sound of “Uneasy” and of Suzy Clue’s meager discography so far is that of heavier shoegaze; grungy and capriciously powerful.
All indications lead me to believe that Suzy Clue is the new “it girl” of alternative rock. “Uneasy” is evocative of that early 2000s sound pioneered by bands like Evanescence and Deftones. Suzy’s softly ethereal vocals are ready to soar on the chorus and scream “break” when the hard-hitting breakdowns hit.
“Uneasy” lyrically follows a tensely volatile relationship with the main speaker folding to feverish intensity. In the lead-up to the main breakdown, Suzy croons, “You break me down / Trying to invade my skin / And seize me / I want to take you in / Now I will / Break.”
