We last heard from Pennsylvania group String Machine when they announced their new album Hallelujah Hell Yeah (due out 2/25 via Know Hope Records) last year alongside the awesome track “Gales of Worry”. The album is an anthemic and exuberant listen that evokes the best of mid-00s indie-rock, and today they’ve unveiled another remarkable single from the album.
“Touring in January” is an incredibly pleasant listen laced with upbeat keys and horn lines, but lyrically, the song hones in on something heavier. Lead singer David Beck has written about how this album was written amidst a separation, and this song was constructed while on a trip to the Poconos to help process that tough time. Beck shared the following about “Touring in January” —
“I’d write the music early in the morning, and I wouldn’t stop until I had a melody hummed out that was catchy enough for me to write words to while hiking these beautiful mountains in the wintertime. It was cathartic to see a view of 18 miles. These variables helped me put my guard down and be honest with myself.”
