Ross Newhouse’s “Genes” is a song with heart and reflection for everyone

Date:

Ross Newhouse’s track, “Genes” from his recently released album, I’d Rather Feel the Weight, is an authentic and connective song with a melancholy rhythm. The lyrics tie in the idea of family and addressing where we come from.

“Genes” explores generational cycles that have been passed down from those before us and addresses the topic of who will eventually stop the cycle and create new habits. The song asks who is to blame for the way things are as Newhouse reflects on the universal feeling of almost imitating the people who created you just to realize you aren’t happy with the results. Feeling confused, irritated, and lost in the choices the universe has thrust upon  you is an experience that Newhouse describes flawlessly.

Newhouse has a knack for expressing the thoughts that everyone has but never speaks out loud, and this song is another example.

“Genes” is out now, and readers can listen below.
