Payson Lewis lets his guard down in “Slowly”

Payson Lewis "Slowly"

In 2018, singer-songwriter Payson Lewis released his debut EP, Take Me Apart. The positive response resulted in his introduction to the world of indie-pop, following the widespread appeal of his sound and lyricism. Lewis isn’t only skilled in music, but also in acting- appearing in a number of films and major TV series. According to his interview with Mundane Magazine, he writes based on observation. So let’s dive into his newest character study.

“Slowly” is the newest single from Payson Lewis. It’s an invitation into Lewis’s guarded level of vulnerability. This track is raw- the production is kept light, meant to compliment and highlight the lyrics & their message. Payson’s vocals float above a piano melody and a light drum beat that’s introduced a little later in the song. The visuals for this single as well as the previous singles for this project all follow a very minimalist theme, likely to go along with the honest, defenseless themes being brought to life. “Slowly” feels like a stripped-down way of asking for someone’s understanding. It isn’t harsh or dramatic, it’s beautifully straightforward.
