SOFIA ISELLA showcases profound artistry in new single “Above The Neck”

Date:

“Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.” This quote from Cesar A. Cruz can be equated to the profoundness of renounced lyricist and artist SOFIA ISELLA, who has released her latest single, “Above The Neck.” Fans of ISELLA were able to see live performances of this song ahead of it’s release during her You’ll Understand D**k tour.

Turning poem into song, “Above The Neck” criticizes the infatuation with hyper-sexualization in today’s age and confronts an entire culture that benefits from the fetishization of childishness and female sexuality. This can bee seen in lyrics like, “It’s time to watch 18-year-olds on a private browser site / but 18 years isn’t short enough for you / They have pigtails and Hello Kitty shorts on to undo.”

On top of this topic, ISELLA challenges another pressing issue: the idea of normalized sexual content and disproportionate perceptions: “Sex is everywhere, it’s everything you see / It’s baked into the air / Breathe, baby, breathe it.” Though some may view this artistry as vulgar, it takes an astonishing amount of bravery to unveil the rot and ruin beneath the “glitz and glamour” of a society, to wake up and transmute the struggles one faces into something that brings about change and comfort.

For listeners who wish to witness this art live in person, ISELLA is set to be touring the UK/ Europe in 2026 with the Her Desire, The Nemesis tour starting in May. Tickets are currently on sale here.
