After dropping his first single of the year just last month, Carter Rubin is already back and ready to go with “crossfire.” Hitting the ground running, Carter is on a steady path towards being the next big thing.
With “cost of finding out” having been received so amazingly by listeners, his fans are excited to see the direction in which this new era is going. His 2025 single “play to win” was the most pop-rock he had gone with his music; “crossfire” ventures into similar territory, standing separately from “cost of finding out” and reaching even more audiences.
According to Carter, his songs usually come from a specific moment in his life, “whether that be an experience, a story, a breakup, or just falling for someone… usually I’ll track it down to the details and the feeling… sometimes I’ll write a lyric and I won’t even know what it means yet but I’ll relate it to a feeling I have somehow.” This unique quality of his is what draws his fans in; being 20 years old and a similar age to a large amount of his fanbase, he’s writing about things they can relate to and may be going through. This just makes them feel that much closer to the singer, which is one of the strongest assets to have.
“crossfire” portrays Carter’s experience of being in a love triangle and the environment he was embracing. His words encapsulate the magnetic feeling of not being able to let go, despite the red flags waving in front of your face: “A few days later word got back around that I was one of two / I hate the way it’s not enough for me to cut you loose / If I lose a life / I don’t even mind / I do it every time.” The lyrics take the listener on Carter’s emotional roller coaster, from the chaos of the situationship, to the drama, to embracing the pain. Fans have loved this track from the start, with some saying it’s already earned a spot as one of their favorites.
With his second EP on track to release later this year plus a headlining show in Nashville this October, 2026 is set to be one of the biggest of his career. If there are people that haven’t heard him before, there’s no way they’ll be able to get Carter Rubin out of their heads after this.
