On Oct. 11, indie pop duo Jack & Jack released “Thought I Was Dead (Home Live Sessions)” which is a more instrumental version of their song “Thought I Was Dead” from their album Home that came out earlier this year in March. The duo, consisting of best friends Jack Gilinsky and Jack Johnson, effectively produced a live version of one of their strongest songs that shows off their creative lyricism.
Their latest single starts with strong guitar strums and eventually adds more elements, like drums and bass, and layers as the song goes on to create an immersive experience. Jack & Jack’s artistry comes alive in this stripped-down version as their ability to harmonize is highlighted. It’s clear why this is one of their best songs as it offers a nice twist that they can smoothly incorporate Spanish into the pre-chorus. The rap portion of the song will hit harder for listeners in this version, especially lyrics like “I’ve heard that life’s a poem, so I tried to arrange my sonnet / But I’m starin’ at all these lines, made of black parade.”
However, if you prefer a more bass-heavy song, then check out their original version of “Thought I Was Dead” as it has an intense, pulsating beat. For an enhanced listening experience, it’s a treat to listen to the home live session right before the original as it’s a smooth transition.
