Mitski releases bossa nova-influenced single “I’ll Change For You”

Date:

Mitski has released “I’ll Change For You,” the second single off her upcoming album, Nothing’s About to Happen to Me, out February 27 via Dead Oceans. It is available for pre-order here

The Japanese-American singer-songwriter also announced global performances in support of the project, with stops in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Supporting acts vary by city and includes Sex Week, Gustaf, Haley Heynderickx, La Zorra Zapata, Maria Somerville, Tarta Relena, Gwenifer Raymond, and more. Ticket pre-sale begins on February 12, here.

“I’ll Change For You” is a midtempo, bossa nova-influenced track where Mitski’s soulful vocals shine over a bass-guitar accompaniment. Lyrically, she confesses to drinking and begging her lover to take her back. With a touch of sadness, she sings in the chorus, “‘Cause I’ll do anything / For you to love me again / If you don’t like me now / I will change for you.”

The music video, directed by Lexie Alley and edited by Rena Johnson, captures Mitski in fragmented vintage film cuts that beautifully capture the nostalgic feeling of the record.
