Melodic Music Monday: September 29

Date:

Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:

——

Tate McRae, “TIT FOR TAT” – On the newest track, McRae seems to be confronting the fallout of a relationship that was all-around toxic. She shares a sense of confusion that usually follows this fallout, along with the harsh realization of someone’s true colors showing. The tone of the song is set immediately as the opening lyric is sung: “Thought I might love you again, I’ll see how I feel / Now that you’re acting like that, boy, I never will / Last night, she answered my call, it sealed the deal / Right now, I’m not even about you.”

– Allyson Franzo

——

Florence + The Machine, “One of the Greats” – Ahead of their upcoming sixth studio album Everybody Scream, lead vocalist Florence Welch defies all odds in being a staple for authentic indie and alternative music. From her witchy, whimsical aesthetic to her enamoring stage presence, watching Florence continue to succeed in the industry is nothing but electrifying. “One Of The Greats” is a six-minute folk-led track with deep, rich vocals. Formally written as a poem, Florence gives deep into self-reflection after a near-death experience she had in 2023.

– Kira Imani Andrews

5 Seconds of Summer, “NOT OK” – Alongside the album announcement, the group released their newest single “NOT OK,” which is the first listen the fans get for the sound of this album. The track is filled with a hyper beat that is meant to get people on their feet to dance. Hemmings, the group’s leading vocalist, shared some thoughts about the song:
“It has the older 5 Seconds of Summer energy, but it’s different—which is the whole M.O. of this chapter. Lyrically, it’s about letting out the darker side of yourself and embracing it. The song is also a nod to the band itself. We pull those sides out of each other.”

– Allyson Franzo

——

ZAYN, “Break Free” – ZAYN has also teamed up with “Borderlands 4” to launch his newest single, “Break Free.” The track isn’t tied to any official project — at least not yet. Still, its release has fueled speculation amongst fans that an album could be on the horizon, especially with the news of a Vegas residency.
