Melodic Music Monday: October 20

Date:

Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:

——

Niall Horan and Thomas Rhett, “Old Tricks” – In an unexpected twist, Niall Horan goes country to team up with Thomas Rhett for a fresh take on “Old Tricks,” a song that originally featured Blake Shelton. Not exactly the collaboration anyone had on their 2025 bingo cards, but somehow, it works. Rhett himself has admitted he never would have guessed Horan would want to jump not he song, stating, “Man, you were the last person I would’ve thought would even like this one!”

– Reagan Denning

——

5 Seconds of Summer, “Boyband” – 5 Seconds of Summer display the darker undertones of fame through the lyrics of the song, with lines like “Love me when I’m skinny and we never, ever age” and “Boyband, boyband, make that monkey dance” showcasing the messed up reality they’ve faced throughout their career. “Boyband” is a powerful, brutally honest effort that mocks the glamorization of the real people behind one of the world’s most beloved phenomena.

– Amber Bintliff

——

Demi Lovato, “Kiss” – While “Kiss” is just as energetic as the previous singles, it is different in that it leaves aside the powerhouse vocals Lovato is known for, only to create her most carefree record yet. Her much-anticipated LP marks the superstar’s return to pop music after her 2022 rock project, Holy Fvck.

– Germano Blanco

——

Oliver Tree, “Superhero” – The first insight into Tree’s upcoming fourth album, Love You Madly, Hate You Badly, “Superhero” is a return to the Santa Cruz singer’s indie-rock roots. Fans who are eager for a bold, classically-Oliver-Tree-sounding new song are in luck: with a brief country-folk stint in 2022 and a dominant hip-hop vibe on his last album, this new song belongs among the likes of his debut album, Ugly Is Beautiful (2020).
