Magic City Hippies dive into love and conflict on “Enemies”

Date:

A romantic relationship filled with tension has its ups and downs, often making you feel both vulnerable and empowered. Magic City Hippies explore this dynamic on their latest synth pop/indie track, “Enemies,” released today.

Formed in 2015, the Miami-based band consists of Robby Hunter, Pat Howard and John Coughlin.

“Enemies” is a brooding, electric pop track that feels like the perfect soundtrack for breaking up and then escaping on a jet ski into a Miami sunset. The song explores themes of passion, unpredictability and the fine line between love and conflict, where intimacy can turn into rivalry, and vice versa. The band captures this sentiment with the lyrics, “There’s a lot of ways / To lose / It’s the lottery.”

As the title track and first song written for their upcoming album, “Enemies” blends the guitar-driven indie rock sound reminiscent of The Strokes with a moody, early 1980s synth vibe like Toto. The result is a track that occupies the space between heartbreak and the relentless forward momentum of life, with a unique, pastel-tinged style and vibrant optimism that sometimes goes dry.
